There were eight of us for today’s walk. David and Rosemary are on a coach trip to
Portugal. But Wendy was walking with us
again. The morning was overcast, but
none of us wanted to cancel another Monday walk.
On previous walks there were at least two or three
donkey’s in this field, but today only one.
They always seem pleased to have company, or perhaps they are just
hoping to get fed.
Tom spotted this colourful
collection of catterpillars. They were
all on this small group of plants. There
were other similar plants, but no catterpillars on them
It does not take much to distract our gallant band of
walkers. In fact any excuse for an
unofficial stop.
It did not take long for Pat to get us going again,
and needless to say it was uphill again.
We usually have our banana stop at this abandoned
finca, but today Pat insisted it was only a water stop. It was still good to have a break. Despite being overcast we were well warmed
with the walk and had removed the first layer of clothing.
This is a particularly impressive section of the
walk, as we follow the road alongside Bernia.
We normally have our picnic at the end of this road, but not today. The new owner of the finca has closed the
road and we had to push on to find an alternative location.
From here it is downhill most of the way back to the
cars, but with a killer hill as we near Pinos.
That was still a couple of hours away, and now we could just enjoy the
easy walking with views of Bernia and to the coast.
Pat did find us a very suitable alternative picnic
site. It is the first time we have had
our lunch here, and we were pleased to see that there were plenty of suitable
rocks to sit on. It was only when I saw
this photo that I realised how overcast the day had become.
Pat took us on a detour to avoid the steep road climb
to Pinos. It involved making our way
through this overgrown river bed, followed by a steep climb up at the end. But it did avoid the steep road!
