Despite the grey skies a good turnout for this, our last
Monday walk of the year. Particularly
good for us, as the walk starts from Parcent
Once more a grey and overcast Monday morning, we have not
been very lucky with the weather since the summer. What little sun there was, was on Orba
castle.
I wanted to shorten the walk by crossing the river, but Pat
wanted to follow it to the abandoned restaurant as we usually do
We had our first stop in Murla, to “admire” the new clock tower. One of the least attractive I have ever
seen. It is totally out of character
with the actual church, and looks more like an industrial chimney than a church
clock tower
Leaving Murla we had a better view of Orba castle
We followed our usual long route up to the castle, which is along the
side of the hill
It is an official green and white signed path, and has recently been
resigned
A nice view of the castle before we climbed the last
section
Not sure why Ken has gone off to the right, while the rest
of us follow the signed path to the top.
Having got to the top first, Pat is officially “queen of
the castle”
After a period of adjustment we finally settle down for our
picnic lunch
The first part of the descent is a little difficult, so we
tried an alternative. It took a little
longer and probably was not worth the effort.
We followed the shorter route down. This is not an official path, and is signed
by an assortment of markings. Unlike the
official path up, this one was overgrown and quite difficult to find.
