This
was our first Monday walk since Olta on 2 February 2015, two months ago. I think that is the longest period we have
missed since we started walking with the group eight years ago.
This
would be my first “proper walk” since I injured my ankle, and with a steep
climb from the port up to the lighthouse it would be a good test.
This
is the area which was badly damaged by the large fire in September 2014. Much of the worse damage has been cleared
away, but there was still plenty of evidence of the fire.
The
path from the port had been through dense woods, with only rare opportunities
to enjoy the views. It is now almost
bare, and feels like a completely different walk.
Most
of the trees were either burned or cut down, but this survivor was the
exception. It looked really sad with
every inch blackened by the fire.
However all around there was evidence of new growth, with a mass of flowers.

This
was the first walk led by Wendy, who had discovered a new return track. She had done a recce and even printed off a
map. Unfortunately it turned out to be
a path which David had led us down about six years ago. It is quite difficult at the start of the
descent, and Wendy received just as many comments as David had when we first
used it. Despite this, Wendy enjoyed
her first walk as leader. Though not
too sure when she will offer again
20 April 2015
Another
Javea walk, this one to be led by Margret.
Not sure of the route, but she promised it was one this group has not
done before. Meet at the usual car park
in Javea Port at 10am.
